The Second Meeting of the Second Committee for the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education of Western Disaster and Environmental Mechanics was Held at Lanzhou University.

On November 14th, the second meeting of the second committee for the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education of Western Disaster and Environmental Mechanics was held at 322 Lecture Hall of Qilian Building,Lanzhou University.  Academician Lai Yuanming(Director of Academic Committee of Key Laboratory, Executive Deputy Dean of Northwest Institute of Eco-Environmental Resources of Chinese Academy of Sciences), Academician Zhen Xiaojing(Deputy director of Academic Committee of Key Laboratory) , Professor Zhou Youhe(Deputy director of Academic Committee of Key Laboratory), Professor Lu Xiyun from University Of Science And Technology Of China(Committee member), Researcher Ma Wei from Northwest Institute of Eco-Environmental Resources of Chinese Academy of Sciences(Committee member), Professor Xu Chunxiao from Tsinghua University (Committee member), Professor Tao Jianjun from Peking University (Committee member), Professor Xu Chunxiao from Tsinghua University (Committee member), Professor Liu Qingquan from Beijing Institute Of Technology University (Committee member), Professor Huang Ning and Professor Zhang Huyuan from Lanzhou University, Professor Li Yumin(Vice President of Lanzhou University), Professor Xu Pengfei (Assistant President and Executive Dean of the Institute of Science and Technology Development) , Professor Wang Jizeng (Director of the School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics, Key Laboratory of Western Ministry of Education for Disaster and Environmental Mechanics, and Changjiang Scholar) attended the meeting. The host of the opening ceremony was Xu Pengfei.

Academician Lai Yuanming hosted the Committee Meeting of Key Laboratory. Professor Huang Ning reported the achievements of the laboratory in discipline construction, talent system construction and scientific research since 2018. The funding for laboratory scientific research continued to increase, and the capacity to undertake major national scientific research projects was further enhanced. In the past two years, the laboratory has undertaken more than 80 scientific research projects, published more than 130 SCI papers, and granted 34 patents, including one American patent. The research results of Professor Zhou Youhe's team won the Second Prize of National Natural Science Award in 2018 and the First Prize of Technology Invention Award of the Ministry of Education in 2019.

One member of the team was selected as the Distinguished Professor of Yangtze River Scholars in 2018, one was awarded the National Outstanding Youth Fund Projects in 2019, and one was awarded the Title of Young Yangtze River Scholar in 2019. The committee members gave full affirmation to the achievements of the laboratory and put forward suggestions on the future construction and development of the laboratory. First, we hoped that the laboratory would take the opportunity of “Double First-rate” construction, focus on the core of laboratory research, give full play to the characteristics and advantages of the Chinese western region, and improve the ability of scientific and technological innovation; The second is to strengthen the construction of the talent team, and to build the laboratory into an internationally renowned high-level research platform and talent training base; The third point, we hoped the team would strengthen the publicity and expand the influence of laboratory research results. It is suggested that the supporting units should consider the particularity and importance of engineering development, increase the support of policies and funds, and match full-time laboratory managers to promote better development of laboratories. In addition, the meeting approved six opening projects of the key laboratory in 2019.

The meeting invited Researcher Ma Wei to do the report titled "the Qinghai-tibet Plateau Permafrost Engineering Major Corridor Engineering Thermodynamic Coupling Research,”, Professor Zhou did the project report titled “Extremely Low Temperature Superconducting Materials and Magnet Environment Research on Mechanical Behavior of the Structure”.Zhang Fanyu, an associate professor, made a research report titled “The Liquefied Mechanism of Fluidized Loess Landslides” Some teachers and all graduate students of the college attended the meeting.

In his concluding speech, Academician Lai Yuanming raised his expectations for the future development of the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education of Western Disaster and Environmental Mechanics. He hoped that the laboratory would aim at the international first-class level, keep its characteristics and advantages, and strengthen development cooperation. In the future, the key laboratory could create outstanding achievements and brilliant.
