Professor Wang Dengming of Our College Won the “Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics ‘Xu Zhilun’ Excellent Teacher National Award in 2019”.

Recently, recommended by the mechanical society of various provinces (municipalities) and autonomous regions, and reviewed by the experts of the Educational Work Committee of the Chinese Society of Mechanics, the Educational Work Committee of the Chinese Society of Mechanics has announced the winners of the“Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics ‘Xu Zhilun’ Excellent Teacher National Award in 2019”. Teacher Wang Dengming from our college is on the list.

Prize-winner Introduction:

Wang Dengming is a professor of the College of Civil Engineering and Mechanics, Lanzhou University, and doctoral advisor. In 2009, Wang obtained Ph.D. in Solid Mechanics, Lanzhou University, and studied under Professor Zhou Youhe, The National Distinguished Young Scholars, Yangtze River Scholar Distinguished Professor, National Teaching Master, and National Innovation Research Group Head. May 2014 - May 2015, Professor Wang was a Visiting Scholar of the Department of Physics, Duke University, Durham, NA, USA. At present, he is also a member of computational mechanics for granular materials of the computational mechanics committee of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and a member of the American physical society. He has won the first prize of the Young Teacher Lecture Contest of the College of Civil Engineering and Mechanics of Lanzhou University, the third prize of the Young Teacher Lecture Contest of Lanzhou University, and the outstanding instructor of the National University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Project. Professor Wang Dengming mainly engaged in Computational Mechanics in Granular Material, Granular fluid mechanics, Mechanical modeling and simulation of complex systems and has published more than 30 papers in professional academic journals such as Phys.Rev.E, Powder Technol, Eur.Phys.J.E, Gran.Matter. Professor Wang is in charge of two projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and got China Postdoctoral Science Foundation Award (Grade 1). Professor Wang presided over the completion of projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation Youth Fund and the National Key Laboratory Open Fund and participated in innovation groups and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation.

Background:

The "National Xu Zhilun Mechanics Outstanding Teacher Award" was established by Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and is one of the highest honors for mechanics teachers in China. This award is recommended by the mechanical society of each province (city, autonomous region), and the Education Working Committee of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics organizes an expert group. The winners are selected by a combination of correspondence evaluation and conference evaluation. A total of 83 winners were selected for this award in 2019, and a total of 3 were selected from Gansu Province. Professor Wang Dengming from our college was among them.

Xu Zhilun (1911-1999) was a famous Chinese mechanic and mechanics educator. He graduated from Tsinghua University in 1934, obtained a master's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1936, a master's degree from Harvard University in 1937. Professor Xu Zhilun was elected as an academician (a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences) in 1980. Professor Xu Zhilun has been devoted to the teaching and research of mechanics for a long time and has made outstanding contributions to the construction and development of mechanics in China. He is one of the founders of elastic mechanics and finite element theory in China, and has made great contributions to the education and scientific research of mechanics, water conservancy and hydropower projects in China.
