Invited by the Journal of Fluid Mechanics (the top journal of international fluid mechanics) and Tsinghua University, Academician Zheng Xiaojing from the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education of Western Disaster and Environmental Mechanics of Lanzhou University, and the research group on Wind-sand Environmental Mechanics participated in the JFM Symposia: From Fundamentals to Applied Fluid Mechanics Seminar held at Tsinghua University from Nov. 9 to Nov. 10.
Academician Zheng Xiaojing was invited to give a special report entitled 'Modulations of Sand Particles on VLSMs in Sand-Laden Flows', detailing the systematic research on the mechanical mechanism in wind-drift sand and sand storm conducted by research group on Wind-sand Environmental Mechanics of Lanzhou University in the past four years through field measurement, wind tunnel test and numerical simulation. The research results showed in the report have attracted the attention and appreciation of the top researchers in the international fluid mechanics. The report was rated as “Cambridge Hot News” by the conference and was evaluated as “incredible work”, which greatly improved the influence of the research group on Wind-sand Environmental Mechanics of our university in the field of fluid mechanics such as high Reynolds number wall turbulence.

Jointly organized by Cambridge University Press and Tsinghua University, this was the last seminar of the JFM Forum in China. The number of participants in the conference exceeded 320 including professors and undergraduates. During the seminar, members of the research group on Wind-sand Environmental Mechanics had a heated discussion with other fluid mechanics scholars.
