On the afternoon of October 23rd, Alan Needleman, the famous solid mechanics, Academician of the American Academy of engineering and American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the winner of the highest prize in the international field of Applied Mechanics--Timoshenko Medal from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and Huang Yonggang, Academician of the American Academy of Engineering and European Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Foreign academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Northwestern University Professor, respectively did reports of "The 188th，189th Lanzhou University Centennial Distinguished Speaker's Seminar".
Before the seminar，President Yan Chunhua met with Academician Needleman and Academician Huang Yonggang. Both sides had an in-depth discussion on the research orientation of Lanzhou University, how to integrate it with the development of the western region, team building, and evaluation methods, and reached a preliminary consensus about supporting the development of Lanzhou University and promoting the construction of related disciplines.
The seminar location was the Lecture Hall of Yifu Building. Professor Huang Ning, dean of the College of Civil Engineering and Mechanics, laboratory chief of the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education of Western Disaster and Environmental Mechanics, hosted the seminar.
At the end of the presentation, Academician Needleman and Academician Huang answered questions from the audience and interacted with the students and teachers from our college.
